Reflect, Play, and Learn
The weekend gives us time to reflect, especially on a long weekend as we have in the USA. It’s a weekend of remembrance and connection with family and friends. Our families have been cleaning the house and rediscovering memories, enjoying the outside in our backyards or at the beach, and being mobile in new ways (including a game of shadow tag). Beach days are special as you can forget about time and everything else. These are forms of continuous learning.
Being in the moment can allow us to reflect and renew.
Holding space for yourself and others can take different forms and also allows us to reflect. We were reminded of that in an interview this week. Sometimes it can be challenging to hold space for others, but you know you can help by being there. This is a form of sacrifice in love. Many have lost loved ones to Covid-19 and choosing to go outside of self to show up for others can be a powerful balm. In support of the collective (whether you are that calm voice in the storm or just spending time with someone in loss), you find you also get as you give.
These reflections in joy and pain help us realize we learn day-to-day, week-to-week, and month-to-month.
This has us reflecting on this continual learning path and its benefits. With that, we’ve decided to move away from a more traditional learning space to one that supports better mobility and learning. We are taking the same content we’ve developed and reshaping it into smaller independent pieces of learning.
We’ve begun by reshaping our course, Holding Space with Empathy and Mobility, now into a theme for monthly learning gatherings to be held on the fourth Thursday of each month beginning June 24. The exceptions will be November and December, which will be held on the third Thursday of each month. We will also offer equitable pricing based on your location in the world. This is about “open” space after all.
Some journeys we will cover in the upcoming months are:
CURATING FOR PURPOSE
So often we just “do” without connecting to the purpose of why we are doing it. In this journey, we will look at how you step back to prepare a gathering (meeting, event, planning, retrospective, project, product, and more) and why the people need to gather. This journey helps you curate the purpose.
CURATING FOR NEEDS
People have many needs and not always the same needs when they gather. Learn to discover, explore and help the people gathered accommodate each other’s needs. This journey helps you sense those needs, design a space to support, and find ways to serve each other.
HOLDING SPACE FOR OPEN SPACE
We will dig into the elements of Open Space, connect with them, and see how they empower how to curate and engage as a collective. This journey will support you to tap into the magic of holding space for others in open space.
HOLDING SPACE EVERYWHERE
Uncover the secrets to holding space. When it begins, what does it look like? Recognizing when it is not present and discovering how to shift in the moment. This journey will unleash the art of holding space.
Let us know if you have questions about these new learning journeys. Looking forward to seeing you.
Journeying in mobility,
April and Mark
